Right between a boat, a plane and a Formula 1 car, lays the 10 by 7 meter long boat SP80, wich is powered by a kite. In 2012, the World Sailing Speed Record was set to 65.45 knots (121km/h) by Paul Larsen onboard Vestas Sailrocket 2.

Believing that this speed can be beaten, the Swiss team SP80 is building a boat capable of reaching 80 knots (150km/h) with the wind as the only source of power.

After testing a prototype on lake Geneva, in 2021 the team started the boat’s construction in Italy at the renowned shipyard Persico Marine. The “sea rocket” will be launched on water by early 2023 with the first record attempts planned for the summer.

SP80 is a team of passionate people, giving the opportunity to work on this extraordinary challenge. CODE-ZERO is glad to be one of the partners of SP80 on this journey.

SP80 is imagining unique solutions and daring concepts that have potential in the sailing world. By establishing a new record, the team wants to demonstrate the applications of a new set of tools in fast marine transport, offshore sailing and energy production.
